My only disappointment with service during our stay: upon check in, as SPG/Delta members we should have gotten a free room upgrade, what we got was a room on a low floor across from the elevator. We sent an email to note our late arrival, and were disappointed to hear that the hotel was full and there were no other room options….take care of your loyal guests, especially those staying for a full week! The concierge, Lisa, is AMAZING! She should be training all SPG concierge staff. She works at an NYC pace, putting us in a taxi to the most perfect lunch spot just outside of Stanley Park (Cordaros), while she made a call to secure a reservation for the perfect romantic dinner later that night (Lupo, walking distance, excellent). While we weren’t thrilled with the location of our room, it was clean, comfortable, and the balcony was a great place to just relax between outings. We didn’t hear the elevators, but could sometimes hear people coming/going. The tiny shower stall shelf was useless as it was slanted forward and things just fell off of it….but it’s so nice to have the choice of the bath or shower stall! The linens and towels were what you’d expect at a Westin or W….very nice. And I appreciate that the soaps and lotions are a nice smell at SPG properties. Having a separate seating room with TV was great, unfortunately the TV in the sitting area kept pixilating and didn’t get all the channels that the TV in the bedroom did. The small kitchenette is closed behind closet doors….out of sight out of mind when not in use. We used it for tea in the AM, and tried to use the toaster which smoked each time we attempted it no matter how much we tried to clean it out. There is a small supermarket steps away, and Starbucks on every corner, and a Tim Horton’s if you like that….getting things is super easy. We only ate in the hotel restaurant once, but it was good food and great service. As everyone will note, the elevators are slow, but never horribly problematic even when staying on a “sold out” weekend. The bell captain and staff were always helpful if the concierge was not there, while Lisa the concierge is irreplaceable, they were always able to point us in the right direction and very friendly…..we are fans of The Keg restaurant, which we don’t have in the Northeast US, we asked about one location and they sent us to a better one, with a rooftop bar and seating. Sure it’s a chain, but the steaks are great, and that al fresco dining made it even better, that was a great tip and I regret not noting their names (afternoon of July 14). All of the staff, even our server at Hidden, was helpful — ask one short question and he was ready to plan an itinerary for us, above and beyond. Location – Robson shopping, a few blocks from Yale Town, from that pier you can get the Aquabus to Granville Island. We got a quick taxi to Stanley Park. Even the train station is close. I would absolutely stay here again if able to get a room on a higher floor in the future. Wifi was free, and reliable! They’re good at what they do here
