Young Urban Professional is still not extinct! And Yuppie headquarters is Yaletown.
There’s money, cars, style, sophistication. When you walk down the narrow streets that used to be industrial loading docks transformed into now posh restaurants and boutiques.
Yaletown used to be the industrial heart of downtown Vancouver with numerous warehouses and loading docks. It was the end of the line for Canadian Pacific Railroad operations and the Yale line. It continued to be rundown for decades as an industrial hole until the 1986 Expo (world’s Fair) converted what was a destitute wasteland into the ultra-trendy neighbourhood, making it one of the biggest gentrification projects ever completed in North America. Seawall Map
Today, Yaletown is a ‘hood that is for the see and be seen crowd. This trendy enclave that sits on the north side of false Creek is a contrast of old and new. Warehouses that have been converted to chic stores, restaurants, bars, and cafes, offices and lofts are intertwined with modern architecture mostly providing condo living. On sunny days, the parks and green space pop up into makeshift ‘beaches’ as the ‘beautiful people lay in the sun. Watch the ballers walk by and enjoy the vibe, but make sure to bring your wallet as the best places to take it all in also cost a bit. Welcome to the good life.
