Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver

Room is extremely small, dirty and even on the desk you don’t have space to put a notebook there. Bathroom is dirty as well with hairs on the floor, even after asking the front desk to remove it, they were still there, so disgusting you cannot imagine. Don’t ever go there, you will get something much better in this price range.

Stayed here for 7 nights recently whilst visiting Vancouver. This is an extremely busy city centre hotel, Whilst it’s not the prettiest to look at don’t be put off by that. It’s within a 5 minute walk of the Skytrain station at Vancouver City Centre and Pacific Mall and all that the city centre has to offer. Its exceptionally clean and I had the benefit of a very quiet room at the rear of the hotel 542. On a city break all one needs is a quiet clean and comfortable room to return to after a long day out. The pool and hot pool were most welcome every morning and was a wonderful bonus for such a city centre location.

If it were possible to rate this hotel 0, I would. The room I had was in dreadful condition. The furniture was broken, the TV did not work and the bed had a huge human size hole in it. The lights did not work, and before you ask I did make sure they were plugged in. That is when I discovered the uncovered electrical junction box with its lose wires rubbing on the box spring. The staff, particularly the woman who answered the phone for housekeeping and the front desk staff were the rudest I have ever encountered in all my travels. This morning when I checked out the man on the front desk asked me how my stay was and when I tried to tell him about the condition of my room, his response was “what did you expect? You get what you pay for. Next time if you want a better room, pay more”.

A very nice hotel, spacious and comfortable rooms, very comfy bed. The main problem for us was no frig’ in the room. Some rooms did have a frig’ but ours did not. Unfortunate as my wife has medication which needs to be kept cold. Asked at reception they said no available frig so we had to leave the meds in their kitchen frig and go down and up every day to fetch it. Apart from that we had no complaints other than a very long wait to get into our room. We were told it would be available by 2.00pm but we sat in the lobby until well after 4.00pm before we could get into our room. Location is great being just around the corner from Robson Street and it’s many eateries, and only a few minutes walk to Gastown. Would stay there again but would make sure we had a frig’ when booking

The only thing this hotel had going for it was it’s central location. We arrived with a prepaid booking around lunchtime but they could not give us a room yet so we stored our bags and walked the city for several hours, we came back at 3pm, and finally we got a room. The room was basic, but clean enough. We stayed here 3 nights, so it wasn’t just 1 uncomfortable night. The staff couldn’t care less about you, The bed was not very comfortable, the room noisy, the lifts unbelievably slow, the towels scratchy and the cleaning daily of rooms extremely slow.

We only stayed for two nights here and it wasn’t too bad. The room was small but still O.K., wifi worked – and the hotel is well positioned in a busy city centre, yet it is still quite. The large bed was O.K., bathroom clean and the tea/coffe machine worked. The coffee was terrible – but this seems to be typical of North America, no matter where you go.The best thing about this hotel is its location. Plenty of eating places nearby, lots of shops, even an IGA supermarket.

I debated rating this average or poor. I bumped it up to average because of the convenience and room comfort. The hotel is located across the street from the Queen Elizabeth theatre which is where we caught a show – so the location was great! It is also a 10 minute walk to Yaletown and a short walk to BC Place or Rogers Arena. The rooms were comfortable and clean. Nothing glamorous but it was functional. The downside was that the elevator was very slow and had problems stopping on the 5th floor. We also paid for parking at the front desk but than received a $100 parking ticket/fine. The front desk person took care of the fine for us but still a nuisance to deal with. All in all it was not a memorable experience. It gets the job done and I would stay there again if I was to catch a sow at the Queen Eliz.

Hotel was ok. Room was small, actually tiny. My suitcase took up half the floor space. Wifi only worked if i stood right by my door with one leg in the air. Elevators to the parking garage at slow but no big deal. $23 plus $6 in taxes for parking daily which would be fine if you could actually fit anything bigger than a smart car into the tiny spots. Good thing it was a rental car because I’m sure the doors were beat off of it by the time I was done my 3 nights parking there. Checkin was fine. No line up when I arrived. Staff friendly. Shark club sports bar in the lobby has amazing food. Not bad but will try another hotel for my next visit.

Clean, good price, walking distance to Roger’s Arena and shopping & transit…excellent service from all restaurants..kudos to Michelle & Guy/Jordan they are excellent at what they do..will stay again

We stayed at the hotel because it is so close to BC Place. It was clean but let us down. The heater didn’t work, 1 of 2 elevators didn’t work consistently during the weekend and the rooms/bathrooms were small.

I have stay 1 night in this hotel becasue of a nhl game. The hotel is close to the Rogers arena. Amazing view at the city center. Room was very nice and clean. Good service and housekeeping. Would stay again in this hotel.

Clean room, comfortable beds, not all that quiet, but it was a game night. Curtains closed and the room was DARK! 🙂 Super friendly staff, easy check-in, secure parking, at a price, but worth it. Could use more elevators! All in all, will be back!

Stayed here twice. First time the room was nice, updated washroom and furniture. Second time was a dated room with pealing paint on the ceiling in the washroom. Great location, good restaurant in the building.

We had a great stay for New Year’s Eve 2016. Check was easy, staff was pleasant. Parking was great and accessible, close to the elevator. We brought our 2 dogs and everyone loved them. Our room was small, but it’s just a room, so we were fine with that. The only complaint I would have would be with the other people staying in rooms close to us, but you can’t change that. So we were happy. The location was great!! Couldn’t ask for anything better which offered pet friendly rooms. The bed was comfy and clean. We will stay again.
Upon entering the sandman I thought the location was convenient and that it looked great and would be a great place to stay as I’ve never been disappointed with the Sandman hotels before. Once I entered my room I was shocked at how small it was! My 9yr old daughters bedroom is bigger than the room we were given! The bed was not comfortable, there is no closet to hang jackets or put shoes aside. Our suitcases were on the floor because there was no where to put them and half the time we were tripping over them! I didn’t relax at all because I couldn’t in this room so most of the time I kept telling my husband “let’s go somewhere” or “get me out of here!” I personally wouldn’t stay here again. I suppose the only benefit was having a restaurant (Moxies) and a lounge (Shark Club) attached to hotel.

I recently spent two nights at this hotel.
The room had to be the smallest I have stayed in in quite some time. The room was clean and fairly up to date. Good water pressure in the shower .
It is centrally located down town and a good value .
Request to be far. From the elevator if you want to sleep. Doors lack soundproofing.
I will go again .

We stayed only one night but the hotel is well located, clean and the staff is nice, welcoming and helpful. The price is great for what you get and the location. The only remark I have is that breakfast is not included, however there is a nice bakery nearby. Finally, I recommend the place.
Went on a small business venture in downtown Vancouver to attend a conference and decided to stay at the Sandman as they advertised lowest rates well that was a big lie I spent 229 a night for a bed and tv with crap coffee. I’ve stayed in nicer two star motels in the middle of nowhere. My advice for the price you spend here you might as well go to the four seasons or other actual four star plus hotels.

Great hotel located right next to the Stadium and train station.
The lovely lady who checked us in was so helpful and friendly.
The room was smallish but had everything we needed. The bathroom was modern and clean. Just wish there was an in-room safe.
Great stay in Vancouver.

We had a 3 hour delay on our flight but when we arrived at 1.15 am the night manager was very helpful getting us to our room,by bad luck we had a disturbed night because of another guest, the following morning we requested a move and there was no problem we left our cases for the cay in a secure room, We were given a nicer room with a bit of a view, every member of staff were very helpful and couldn’t do enough for us .The rooms were a good size, very clean plenty of towels and hot water, the lifts were quick and prompt, my only drawback was I thought the restaurant manager at breakfast time needed more time to wake up before he dealt with guests.
