Location: Walking distance to Canada Place, Gastown, Robson Street, Granville Street & lots of amenities.
Bus Stop: The hop on hop off buses (West Coast & Trolley) both stop directly outside the hotel.
Room: Small but clean with a comfy bed. Free wifi.
Moxie’s Restaurant: Downstairs with great food & a varied menu. Staff were lovely, especially Sydney.
Pool: Freezing cold but quiet/didn’t see anyone else there, & there’s a hot tub.
Luggage Room: To store your bags after check out.
Air Con in Room: Very noisy.
Room: No fridge or safe, & barely any cupboard/hanging space.
Room Service: They refused to do room service when there’s an “event on.” When we went downstairs to eat in the restaurant instead, it was empty. Bit odd.
Lifts: Having read previous reviews, I thought to myself it can’t be that bad. I was wrong….it was worse! So slow & infrequent. Sometimes more than 10mins wait. Became irritating, especially as there’s no air con in the corridors so it was boiling hot.
Business Centre: Had to print a tour voucher but there was no ink in the printer despite charging us $5. Luckily the reception staff helped us out.
Greeting: The receptionist checking us in didn’t welcome us. We had to ask if we could have a map & ask her where we were. When we said we’re staying for 10 night she looked unimpressed & sarcastically said “wow,” which made us worried about the state of the hotel, but we had a good stay & would stay here again based on the great location.
This hotel was in a great central spot. I found walking to all the different areas very easy from here. If your a sports person the arena is visible from many rooms, so it’s like only a couple of minutes walk. The staff are friendly and I particularly liked that I arrived early off a long haul flight and they had given me a room ready to go, I loved this. I was exhausted, needed a shower and a soft bed and I got both. My room was well appointed with a fridge and it was clean, and the bed very comfortable and soft. The Shark bar adjacent to the hotel, was a great spot for a beer and a meal, I found the staff in there very friendly and the service great.
From my husband, who stayed at the Sandman for a week while his father was in hospital nearby: Just wanted to give a huge shoutout to the front desk staff of the Sandman Hotel, City Centre in Vancouver, B.C. on behalf of the C. family from Lanarkshire, Scotland/ Maryland, U.S.A. My parents could not have had better care from a more dedicated and professional staff who regularly went way above and beyond the call of duty during my parents’ unexpected extended stay in Vancouver. To list the great kindnesses shown my parents and me would simply take too long. Special thanks in particular are due to Stan at the front desk. I’ve always had faith that given the opportunity, people will go the extra mile. Stan proves it, consistently.
Clean rooms with access to sites in the city for a moderate price. Nice bar and restaurant and very friendly staff. Perfect hotel for Alaskan cruisers! Taxis readily available for the port of Vancouver. We looked for cheap rates for this hotly on the usual sites; however our travel agent got us an even better rate so it is worth making the comparison
The location is undeniably great, close to everything and convenient. That is about it. The rooms are small and average, couldn’t get hot water one night to shower, tiny towels, window was broken, walls were thin so you heard everything.
Elevators were often stuck or slow (usually waited 15+minutes). Front desk service was not friendly or welcoming at all, put a hold on my entire credit card which is a pain while on vacation.
Parking is 23$ a night and a bit confusing when you arrive.
It is nice to be close to most areas of Vancouver and have the Moxies and Sharks Club close but that is where the good ends.
Room was quite small, but it was ok. It was clean and this is what’s important. Staff at the front desk was super friendly and kind. Location is just the best. There is ice hockey arena, football stadium and Robson St is 2 minutes away. Really easy to access other parts of down town as well, so will stay there again if coming back to Vancouver.
The gym is not included, you need to buy an $8 pass each time you use it because it is not actually owned by the hotel.
Second Review Sandman Hotel Vancouver City Centre
Hotel has a good location for sporting and concert events. Very clean with restaurant and sports bar at the location. Pricing did not include parking fee of $23 per day. Room was very clean with free wireless WIFI however the first day the shower was not hot ( I think the hotel was full the first day) second water temperature was fine.
My landing point in Canada. The Sandman had great prices for their rooms which led me to believe it was a budget hotel. I was proven wrong with its ridiculous array of business including a full service restaurant, gym, pool+spa and two bars. The attendants were amazingly helpful in planning out my Canada trip and the rooms were luxurious with great views.
This was a great location/cost balance for my brief stint in Vancouver. I could walk to most places, it was very close to multiple transit lines and it didn’t cost me what the hotels down the street wanted to charge! Wifi was part of my room rate.
The location of this hotel is great and the value decent. But the building itself could use a lot of upgrades, though. The service elevator to the parking garage was out of order during our stay and men were working in the parking garage without any safety signage when we left. Our sink didn’t get warm water, and the room did not include a fridge or a safe. Also instead of being in it’s own alcove off the elevator like most hotels, the pop and ice machine was right outside our door in the middle of the hall, so one night we were woken at 4am by crashing ice and people talking at full volume. The room could’ve used a sharper eye as far as cleaning was concerned (the baseboard along the wall was pretty dusty/filthy, tiles in shower were all discoloured in between, etc.). But the beds were comfy, the room warm, and the wifi strong, which are the important bits. So it wasn’t a bad stay. But will I stay somewhere else knowing I can get more of what I need in future? Most likely.
Just spent three nights at the hotel. Room was not large but I had a king size bed that was extremely comfortable. Pillows were large and soft. Bathroom was a little small but had lots of water pressure.
This hotel is steps from BC Place and numerous eateries both large and small. It was a $35 cab ride from the airport. Also a Moxies restaurant on site.
Paid $89 dollars a night. Good value for the price. Also within a few blocks of the sky train.
Also had free in room wi-fi.
